We have developed a very safe and effective vaccination program for cats. We use the safest vaccines available to maximize the protective value and minimize any chance of an unwanted reaction, and we are very aware of vaccine sarcoma risk…our vaccine choices are based on technology that avoids these tumors. After in depth study and analysis, we have developed several vaccination schedules based on the lifestyle of your kitty. Fewer vaccinations are recommended for indoor-only cats, while more are necessary to protect outdoor cats exposed to more diseases. Please ask your doctor for a more in depth explanation during your visit, including information on other species we vaccinate such as birds or ferrets.
Feline Vaccines we use:
- FVRCP: A three-in-one upper respiratory and feline distemper vaccine (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopeniavirus combo)
- Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV): A contagious virus spread by fighting and other close contact between cats
- Rabies Virus: Spread by contact with infected animals, usually wildlife. This vaccine is legally required for cats residing in Marin County.
- Feline Infectious Peritonitits (FIP): A vaccine for a very unusual and difficult disease in cats, that is 100 percent fatal for infected individuals.
- Bordetella: A respiratory disease (tracheobronchitis) that is easily and commonly transmitted from cat to cat, or even to/from other animals.
- Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV): An AIDS-like disease that cats usually give each other through fighting behavior.
While vaccines are effective at preventing disease, we recommend twice yearly examinations for all pets to catch diseases early. Contact us today to schedule a check-up for your pet.
